Director of the Nonproliferation and Arms Control Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Vladimir Yermakov, spoke about the current relations between Washington and Moscow.

According to him, the risks of a direct military confrontation are now increasing between Russia and the United States of America. In this case, START’s fate could be sealed.

“In the event that everything goes according to the worst scenario, if the White House brings the situation to a military confrontation between the United States and the Russian Federation, then we will have to worry about the fate of the whole world, not about save the New START treaty,” Yermakov said.

He said Washington must take all necessary steps to de-escalate the conflict and stop adhering to the “hostile line of undermining Russia’s security.”
