Sukhwinder Singh from Haryana, who arrived at Delhi airport from Saudi Arabia after being evacuated from trouble-torn Sudan, heaved a sigh of relief, “It was as if we were on death bed in Sudan. Sukhwinder (40), an engineer by profession, was among the first batch of 360 Indian nationals who returned home on Wednesday night as part of India’s ‘Operation Cauvery evacuation mission’.

Sukhwinder, a resident of Faridabad, Haryana, recalled his experience in Sudan, saying he is “still very scared”. He told PTI-language, “We were confined to one area. We were confined to one room. It was as if we were on our deathbed. India has evacuated at least 670 citizens from conflict-torn Sudan as part of its evacuation operation.

Chhotu, a factory worker from Uttar Pradesh’s Kushinagar, shouted as soon as he reached here, “I am back after dying.” Chhotu told PTI, “Now I will never go back to Sudan.” I will do anything in my country, but will not go back. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also shared some pictures of the Indians who returned from Sudan on Twitter.

He wrote, “India welcomes its own people. The first flight under Operation Kaveri reached New Delhi and 360 Indian nationals landed on their soil. Tasmer Singh (60), a resident of Hoshiarpur in Punjab, described his experience during the ongoing conflict in Sudan as horrifying. We were like, living in a small house without electricity, without running water. We never thought that we will face this kind of situation in life, but thank god we are alive.

Deadly clashes between the country’s army and a paramilitary Rapid Support Force have continued in Sudan for the past 12 days, in which more than 400 people have reportedly been killed. India has stepped up its efforts to evacuate Indians from Sudan after a 72-hour ceasefire was agreed upon. Under ‘Operation Kaveri’, India is taking refugees to Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah city from where they are being brought back to the country. Is. Meanwhile, airline Indigo said it has offered charter flight services to Jeddah under ‘Operation Kaveri’. The company said in a statement, “We are still waiting for details from the ministry to start this flight service, nothing is confirmed yet.” Several states have opened ‘help desks’ and announced assistance like free travel and accommodation for Indians deported from Sudan after their arrival in the country.
