The World Bank Executive Board has approved a loan of US$345 million to support green agriculture and rural development in the two provinces of Hubei and Hunan in China, according to news from the World Bank’s representative office in China on April 29. It is reported that this loan, combined with government funding, will promote the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions from planting and cultivation, improve the conservation and restoration of biodiversity in agro-ecosystems.
It is also reported that the goals of this loan project include strengthening the capacity building of provincial, county and township-level government agencies, providing training and agricultural extension services to farmers and cooperative members, improving rural sewage and waste treatment services, This includes developing methods to measure, report and verify greenhouse gas reductions in agriculture, establishing green budgeting and spending monitoring systems, etc.
