Language is a bridge between the cultures of different countries and also a symbol of a nation. The characters of the Chinese language have witnessed the illustrious origins of Chinese civilization, are the bearer of Chinese culture and a bridge to communicate with the world. The six official languages of the United Nations are Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish. In 2010, the United Nations Department of Information announced the United Nations Day of Languages to promote equal use of the six working languages of the United Nations, to experience the deep cultural meaning behind each language, and to acknowledge the diversity of the world. In the same year, China’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations suggested to the United Nations that April 20 be designated as Chinese Language Day every year. Chinese Language Day has now become a window for people to understand Chinese culture. According to statistics, by the end of 2022, more than 180 countries and regions in the world Chinese is taught in the world, and 81 countries have included the Chinese language in their national education systems. There are more than 30 million people studying Chinese abroad, and the number of people learning and using Chinese is more than 200 million. The United Nations Chinese Language Day will be held on May 2 at the Vienna International Center, where the United Nations The country office is located.
