Psoriasis… a skin disease with painful complications

What is the cause of psoriasis?

Psoriasis affects about 3% of the world’s population and it appears in various forms that affect either the joints, skin, hair or nails. The cause of Psoriasis or Psoriasis is not fully known, but it is a non-infectious skin disease that goes through different stages that worsen and may subside at certain times. This disease, which doctors say is an autoimmune disease, can attack the body’s immune cells and also cause various joint inflammations. These infections are manifested by redness, swelling and pain.

When is the diagnosis made?

The disease, which affects a good percentage of adults, can be diagnosed in childhood as a skin disease, before it worsens and affects the joints later.

what is the treatement?

Many drugs have been developed to treat advanced cases of rheumatoid arthritis. A previous American study from the University of Washington, the results of which were presented at the annual European Congress of Rheumatology, revealed that the drug “Tildrakizumab”, which is generally prescribed for the treatment of psoriasis, can help improve symptoms. arthritis by about 80 percent. This percentage is affected by the patient’s condition, age and stage of the disease.

The doctor answers questions

For more information on the disease, a rheumatology consultant, Ahmed Abu Jamal, spoke to ‘Sky News Arabia’, saying:

Psoriasis is well known as a skin disease, but it is an autoimmune disease, which means that the immune system, due to an unknown defect, recognizes certain body tissues as foreign and not belonging to the body. In the case of psoriasis, the immune system recognizes the skin as foreign, but with scientific development and the discovery of how the immune system works in large part, we knew that the skin was only part of the disease. There are other parts of the body that can be attacked by the immune system, the most famous of which is the joints, so a large part of rheumatic infections called psoriatic arthritis is an inflammation of the joint motor system, which is accompanied by a skin psoriasis.

How do the symptoms start?

Abu Jamal went on to say:

The exposure rate of people with cutaneous psoriasis to joint psoriasis ranges from 25 to 30%. Most patients have a childhood rash. From the age of 8 to 10, the effect appears on the joints, such as peripheral joints such as the hands, or the joints of the lower limbs such as the knee and ankle, or tendon injuries, such as pain in the heels. Psoriasis of the joints appears with a slow evolution, so it is necessary when there is joint pain in people with psoriasis of the skin, that they quickly consult the specialist doctor, since many patients suffer from psoriasis of the joints for years without realizing it.
