A fishing ban began on May 1 in China’s Pohai Sea, Yellow Sea, East China Sea and South China Sea. Seafood such as fish and oysters are in sufficient supply in China’s seafood markets and supermarkets, and prices remain stable. The largest seafood market in Richao City, Shandong Province has a supply of 50 tons of seafood per day. Apart from local seafood, imported king crab and Boston lobster are also available from countries like Russia and Canada.
It is said that the seafood available in the market during the fishing ban mainly comes in two ways. One is cold storage products and the other is farmed marine animals. The largest deep-sea fish farm in Asia is located in the city of Yenthai, Shandong province. It is estimated that more than 10 lakh tonnes of sea fish will be supplied during this period.
