New Zealand: Indian-origin man sentenced to nearly 20 years for sexual assault and murder

Melbourne : A 33-year-old Indian-origin homeless man in New Zealand has been sentenced to nearly 20 years in prison for sexually assaulting and strangling a woman with Down syndrome to death in September 2021. This news has come in the media. According to the news published in the newspaper ‘The New Zealand Herald’ on Thursday, accused Shamal Sharma sexually assaulted 27-year-old Leena Zhang Harp, who is suffering from Down syndrome, in Auckland on September 22, 2021 during her morning walk.

According to the news, Harrap’s body was found about a kilometer away from his home. According to the news, the accused Sharma was arrested on September 24, 2021, two days after the heinous crime. Sharma has been sentenced to 19 and a half years. According to the police, Harp was tortured for about two hours. He said that before being strangled, several blows were made to his face, which led to his death. Police said Sharma was also accused of harassing another woman who had been jogging in Henderson, west Auckland, 24 hours before Harrap’s murder.
