The killer fired indiscriminately
It all happened in a large Allen Premium Outlets shopping center, located in the city of Allen (about 40 kilometers north of downtown Dallas – editor’s note).
The shooting sent panicked people fleeing the mall, which was packed over the weekend. It was panic and jostling. Dashcam video shows the assailant getting out of the car and shooting indiscriminately at people on the sidewalk. more than three dozen shots were fired. Another video was posted by eyewitnesses on social media. People can be seen running through the parking lot to the sound of gunfire.
Allen City Fire Chief Jonathan Boyd said seven people, including the attacker, died at the scene. Nine victims were transported to regional hospitals, two of whom died.
One of the officers accidentally ended up in the mall area. He heard the shots at 3:36 p.m. “The officer engaged the suspect and neutralized the threat. He then called an ambulance,” the report said.
More than 30 police cars with flashing lights blocked the entrance to the mall and several ambulances arrived at the scene from nearby towns. There were also armored trucks near the mall.
Photo: Reuters
The United States breaks a sad record of mass murders

This year, mass killings in the United States are occurring at a staggering rate, averaging about once a week, according to a database maintained by The Associated Press and USA Today in partnership with Northeastern University. In 2023, they were at least 198, which is the maximum figure for the year (statistics for the last 6 years). A mass shooting is a shooting in which four or more people are injured or killed.
The White House said US President Joe Biden had been notified of the shooting and the administration had offered support to local authorities. Texas Governor Greg Abbott, who previously lifted some of the gun restrictions, called Allen’s shooting an “unspeakable tragedy”.
The U.S. Congress has failed to pass significant gun control legislation despite continued mass shootings resulting in deaths in America. Texas residents can legally carry guns without a license or training. Last August, a federal judge struck down a Texas law raising the age to carry a handgun from 18 to 21.

Abbott is a Republican. He advocates that weapons be as accessible as possible to the population. Meanwhile, a recent poll commissioned by Fox News found that Americans support gun control measures.
