On May 8, the Chinese State Consul, Foreign Minister Qin Kang called on the Beijing-based US Ambassador R.K. Meet Nicholas Burns. Xi Jinping pointed out that China will handle China-US relations by adhering to the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and cooperation, and win-win, put forth by President Xi Jinping. China hopes that the US will think deeply, work with China to get bilateral relations out of the predicament and get back on track.
The US should respect China’s bottom line and red line, stop undermining China’s sovereignty, security and development interests, especially properly handle the Taiwan issue, stop hollowing out the One-China principle and stop supporting separatist forces for “Taiwan independence”. The United States should handle the unexpected events in bilateral relations in a calm and pragmatic manner, so as to improve Sino-US relations.
