With the continuation of talks between the delegations of the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces in order to stabilize the truce, clashes were renewed in the capital, Khartoum, and the sound of artillery and clashes were heard in the capital between the army and the Rapid Support Forces. Local sources said that fierce fighting took place in the vicinity of the Arab market in central Khartoum.
He also added that there was heavy flight of warplanes over several areas of the capital, while plumes of smoke rose in some areas in Sudan.
Meanwhile, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, confirmed from the Burundian capital, Bujumbura, that the fighting must stop immediately in Sudan, before it turns into a civil war that may destroy the country and shake the region in the coming years.
On the sidelines of a regional summit on peace in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the UN Secretary-General said that the situation in Sudan raises more concern every day, as the battles continue fiercely, while the security situation worsens, stressing that this conflict is a tragedy for the Sudanese people and an additional threat to security in the Sahel and East Africa. He said that everyone must give priority to the interests of the Sudanese people in the first place, stressing that it is necessary to return to peace and to a civil order.
He added, “We are working side by side with the African Union and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development in the region, and I am personally involved in this direction,” reiterating his call to the international community to support the Sudanese people in their quest for peace.
