The US Embassy in Israel said, according to local media, that it regrets the tragic loss of civilian life in the raids launched by the Israeli army on Gaza.
An embassy spokesman said: “We are closely following the Israeli airstrikes in the Gaza Strip, which killed 3 leaders of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement.”
He added: “We are aware of reports that 10 civilians have been tragically killed in Israeli raids.”
He called on all parties to defuse tensions to protect non-combatants and prevent further loss of civilian life.
The US diplomat stressed that Washington’s commitment to Israel’s security will remain “strict”.

He added that the US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, had spoken before the assassination in Gaza with his Israeli counterpart, Eli Cohen.
According to the US State Department statement, Blinken stressed the need to maintain calm, which President Joe Biden’s administration has been calling for since taking office.
