Doctor Andrei Pozdnyakov noted that syphilis can be contracted through any unprotected sexual contact.

Syphilis is caused by the bacterium Treponema pallidum, which can enter the body through mucous membranes or broken skin.

The doctor stressed that syphilis is not only transmitted through sexual contact – it can also be transmitted by sharing towels, combs or clothes with the patient.

Syphilis can also be transmitted by eating food prepared or served using utensils that have been used by a syphilitic person.

The doctor noted that syphilis can be transmitted to a child during childbirth if it occurs naturally in a pregnant woman.

The incubation period for syphilis is four weeks; symptoms usually appear during this time.
