Artificial intelligence test promises ‘breakthrough prevention’ of heart attacks

May 12, 2023

According to the American information network “Sky News”, the researchers who developed the computer algorithm hope that it will help prevent many serious cases of heart attacks, which end in intensive care units and eventually death.

The experiments included 10,286 people who reported chest pain, and the artificial intelligence-based diagnostic tool, called “CoDE-ACS”, was found to be more effective than currently common screening tools. .

The results showed that the diagnostic method based on artificial intelligence was more useful in preventing heart attacks, by two times, compared to current tools.

Extensive clinical trials are now underway in Scotland, with support from the Wellcome Lab, to determine how well the new screening tool can reduce heart attacks that are burdening hospitals.

Promising results

• Professor Nicholas Mills, a cardiology researcher at the University of Edinburgh, who supervised the research, said: “For someone suffering from severe chest pain from a heart attack, early diagnosis is lifesaving. ”

• He added that many people who experience this symptom do not think about the possibility of a heart attack, as chest pain is a common sign of several health conditions.

• Current tests to monitor the risk of heart attacks rely on measuring the level of the protein “troponin” in the blood, but this method is not accurate, according to some experts.

• The current method adopts the same percentage of protein in any patient when monitoring heart attack risk, regardless of the patient’s age, gender and other health factors that may affect them.

• Previous studies have warned that patients who receive a false heart attack risk assessment increase their risk of death by 70% in the next 30 days.

• The new screening method looks at several factors such as age, gender, EKG results and troponin levels, to monitor heart attack risk.
