Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

EU discusses 11th package of anti-Russian sanctions. What will it include? – Russian newspaper

Thus, the publication Politico learned that the 11th package could talk about tougher energy sanctions. According to the newspaper’s sources, at present, representatives of EU countries have no serious objections to this. In particular, it is planned to prohibit access to European ports to ships that attempt to circumvent the sanctions against Russian oil.
At the same time, new restrictions are unlikely to affect the nuclear industry. Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Economic Relations Péter Szijjártó said that the European Commission’s proposals do not contain any sanctions against the nuclear industry. The head of the Foreign Ministry stressed that Budapest would not agree to the introduction of such restrictions.

As Bloomberg reported, the EC seeks to prevent other countries from helping Russia and to cut trade channels between the Russian Federation and the rest of the world. For example, companies from China, Iran and Turkey may be subject to sanctions. According to the Financial Times newspaper, seven Chinese companies could be on the EU’s “blacklist” (in total, around 30 companies could be added to it, at least that number has been previously reported).

However, European companies are not immune to sanctions either. As noted, German authorities have offered to review EU companies, “who may, knowingly or unknowingly, facilitate the export of prohibited goods to Russia.” Berlin is also proposing to introduce contractual requirements forcing importers from third countries not to export certain goods to Russia.

As indicated RIA News former member of the Bundestag, journalist and writer Armin-Paulus Hampel, imposing sanctions on countries and companies for the trade in dual-use goods will be the worst decision for the EU. In his opinion, this will cause a real mess. As Hampel pointed out, the EU oversteps its authority, since trade policy is determined by each country independently.
