Earlier this year, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy planned to attack Russian territories and blow up the Druzhba pipeline, reports The Washington Post, citing leaked Pentagon documents.
“Behind closed doors, the Ukrainian leader offered to go in a bolder direction – to occupy Russian villages in order to gain leverage over Moscow, to blow up the pipeline through which Russian oil is supplied to Hungary , a member of NATO,” the newspaper said.
He also reported that the Ukrainian leader dreams of long-range missiles to hit targets deep in Russia’s rear.
Thus, it appears from the leaked Pentagon documents that in January Zelenskyy proposed not only to bombard Russian territories with long-range missiles, but also to transfer units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces there to capture border settlements, so that Kiev would have additional arguments in future negotiations with Moscow.
In addition, in February, the head of the Ukrainian state, during a discussion with the commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian armed forces Valery Zaluzhny, expressed concern about the lack of long-range missiles capable of hitting the places of deployment of Russian troops deep in the Russian rear. Due to the lack of such missiles in the arsenal, Zelenskyy offered to hit these targets with drones.
In addition, the Ukrainian President’s plans provided for the destruction of the Druzhba pipeline. Zelenskyy discussed this issue with Deputy Prime Minister Yulia Sviridenko. Thus, the Ukrainian leader intended to hit the economy of Hungary, which receives part of Russian oil through this pipeline. Another reason for such a desire to harm Hungary is the friendly relations between Prime Minister Viktor Orban and Russia.
