Islamabad: A Pakistan High Court on Tuesday extended till June 8 the bail granted to former Prime Minister Imran Khan in two cases related to inciting violence and sedition. A single bench of the Islamabad High Court (IAVC) heard the case related to allegations against top officials of state institutions and manhandling of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Mohsin Ranjha by supporters of Khan. Chief Justice Aamer Farooq extended the bail of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief till June 8 after hearing the arguments of the lawyers.
The court had also exempted the former prime minister from appearing in the court today. Chief Justice Farooq also questioned about the FIR related to Khan’s arrest from the court premises. The Attorney General replied that the matter is pending in the Supreme Court. The Islamabad High Court, while granting bail to Khan (70), had stayed his arrest in all cases registered after May 9. He was asked to approach the Lahore High Court on 15 May for anticipatory relief.
Several cases have been registered against Khan since he was ousted from power in April last year. Khan alleges that all the cases are politically motivated. Meanwhile, the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday reserved judgment on Khan’s plea seeking bail in all cases registered against him in Punjab province following his arrest in the Al Qadir Trust case last week. .
Khan, 70, was arrested from the Islamabad High Court complex last week in the Al-Qadir Trust case and remanded to eight-day National Accountability Bureau (NAB) custody by an accountability court in the corruption case. In a major relief to Khan, the Supreme Court termed his arrest as “illegal” and ordered his immediate release.
