With assists from Salah, Liverpool keep knocking on Champions League door

May 16, 2023

Liverpool took their tally to 65, one point behind Newcastle and United, but the latter two played one less game.

On the other hand, the balance of Leicester froze at 30 points in penultimate position, to remain in real danger of falling.

And the win is the seventh in a row for Liverpool, so he breaks the Champions League door, hoping to stumble for third and fourth places, with two games left, the first at home to Aston Villa next Saturday, then he ended his season by going to Southampton, which was relegated to the “Championship” league out of the current 28.

Leicester, who shocked everyone in 2016 when they were crowned champions but are currently under threat of bidding farewell to the Premier League, started the game well and struck twice between the three woods.

But Liverpool were the first to score when Egyptian striker Mohamed Salah lifted a perfect ball past the far post, which the unmarked Curtis Jones easily followed into the net in the 33rd minute.

Leicester did not recover from the shock until Curtis added the second three minutes later, with another pass from Salah, to break the offside trap and put the ball in the net.

Liverpool continued their advantage in the second half and managed to add the third goal when Salah moved a direct free kick towards Trent Alexander-Arnold, who fired it into the roof of the Leicester City net, ultimately deciding the result in favor of his team in the 71st minute.

Salah almost capped off his impressive effort with the fourth goal, but he struck outside the three-wood after being alone with the Leicester City keeper in the 77th minute.
