Kathmandu: Kami Rita, one of the best mountaineer guides, on Wednesday regained her title of highest number of climbers by scaling Mount Everest for the 27th time. A fellow Sherpa climber had equaled his previous record three days earlier. Kami Rita, 53, reached the 8,849-metre (29,032-foot) summit of the world’s highest mountain while leading a group of climbers, Mingma Sherpa of Kathmandu-based Seven Summit Treks said. He is safe and sound.
Nepal’s Sherpa Gaidan Pasang Dawa equaled his record by climbing the mountain for the 26th time on Sunday. The first group of climbers this season reached the mountain last weekend. May is considered the best month to climb Everest as the weather is at its best during that time. Kami Rita first scaled Everest in 1994 and since then has been climbing the mountain almost every year.
