In a speech at the China-Central Asia Summit in northwest China, Xi said his country is willing to coordinate development strategies with the five Central Asian countries, namely Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, and to make joint efforts to promote development. in the six countries.

“This summit has given new impetus to the development and revitalization of the six countries, injecting strong positive energy into peace and stability in the region,” Xi said at a press conference held later with their Central Asian counterparts.

“We will jointly adopt a highly complementary, high-level and win-win new cooperation framework,” he said.

The five former Soviet republics have a network of trade corridors that China can use as alternative routes to transport fuel, food and other goods in the event of global unrest.

At the summit, Xi said, “The world needs Central Asia to enjoy stability, prosperity, harmony and good communication.”

Xi said China will raise the level of bilateral investment agreements with Central Asian countries and increase the volume of cross-border cargo with the region comprehensively.

He added that Beijing will encourage Chinese-funded enterprises in Central Asia to help create more local jobs, build overseas warehouses in the region and launch a special railway service to promote cultural tourism in China. Central Asia.

Trade between China and Central Asia hit a record $70 billion last year, with Kazakhstan leading the way with $31 billion.

China’s drive to strengthen its economic ties comes as it seeks to achieve higher levels of food and energy security.
