Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

Foil another Russian attack on Kyiv.. and Zaporizhia is on a hot plate

“Last night, the aggressor carried out another massive attack with drones,” Sergey Popko, the head of Kyiv’s civil and military administration, wrote on Telegram.

He added: “The city’s air defenses shot down all aerial targets that were detected,” indicating that they were “Shahid” drones, according to preliminary information.

He pointed out that Kiev “has not been the subject of any raids”, but that debris that fell on the capital caused a fire on the roof of a residential building in the Dnipro region, and that it s went out without causing any injuries.

Earlier, Kiev Mayor Vitaly Klitschko wrote on Telegram that there was “a fire on the roof of a nine-storey building in a residential complex in the Dnipro region”, adding that there was no there was no information about the victims.

Sergei Popko said the fire was caused by “falling debris”, calling on residents to take shelter.

Popko spoke about more debris falling on several streets in the Darnitsky and Solomyansky regions, explaining that information about possible damage and losses is being verified.

At 00:45 (2145 GMT Friday), the Ukrainian military announced that Shahed drones were heading towards the Kyiv region.

Authorities reported explosions there, as well as in Chernigov (central-north) and Mariupol (south-east).

The army noted that air defense systems are active in the Kiev and Chernigov regions.

Zaporizhia nuclear power plant

In this context, Russian forces have in recent weeks reinforced their defensive positions in and around the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant in the south of the country, ahead of an expected counterattack in the region.

Russian forces have had firing positions above some of the nuclear power plant buildings for months.

The nets were installed in what is likely to be an obstacle for drones.

The actions described by two Ukrainian station employees and two other residents of the town of Innerhodar highlight the security risks posed by the war to the facility.

The Russian company that operates the plant has said that any possible military action by Ukraine poses a threat to nuclear security and that the plant’s equipment is being properly maintained. Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence Agency and Russia’s Defense Ministry did not respond to requests for comment.

The International Atomic Energy Agency says military presence and activity are increasing in the region, underscoring the need for urgent action.

The agency has been warning for months of the danger of a major accident at the station.

Four diplomats told Reuters the agency planned to present to the United Nations Security Council an agreement between Russia and Ukraine later this month aimed at protecting the facility.
