Sydney: Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on Monday said it would be an “honour” for him to host Prime Minister Narendra Modi here. They also underlined the shared commitment of the two countries to a stable, secure and prosperous Indo-Pacific. Albanese also said he looked forward to celebrating Australia’s Indian community with Prime Minister Modi in Sydney on Tuesday. Prime Minister Modi will visit the country from May 22-24 as the guest of the Government of Australia. “I look forward to hosting Prime Minister Modi on an official visit to Australia after the very warm welcome he received in India earlier this year,” Albanese said in a statement. He said amid China’s aggressive behavior in the Indo-Pacific, that ‘Australia and India share the commitment to a stable, secure and prosperous Indo-Pacific. We both have an important role to play in taking this vision forward.” He said, “As friends and partners, the relationship between our countries has never been closer. I look forward to celebrating Australia’s Indian community with PM Modi in Sydney.” PM Modi also said he looked forward to his meeting with Albanese on 24 May. In a statement before his departure from New Delhi on May 19, Modi had said, “I look forward to our bilateral meeting, which will reflect progress on our bilateral relations and our first India-Australia summit in New Delhi in March this year.” There will be an opportunity to review.
