Port Moresby: Prime Minister of Fiji Sitwini Rabuka on Monday conferred the country’s highest honor ‘Companion of the Order of Fiji’ on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He has been given this honor for the global leadership of Prime Minister Modi. Fiji’s highest honor is rarely awarded to a person from another country. PM Modi arrived in Papua New Guinea on Sunday to host an important summit of India and 14 Pacific Island countries with the aim of improving bilateral relations.
Prime Minister Modi’s office said, ‘It is a great honor for India. Modi was awarded Fiji’s highest honor by the Prime Minister of Fiji. He was awarded ‘Companion of the Order of Fiji’ for his global leadership. Till date, only a few people from outside Fiji have been honored with it. and has played an important role in building a stable relationship.
PM Modi also met Rabuka on the sidelines of the Forum for Indo-Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC). Prime Minister Modi tweeted, “It was a pleasure to meet Prime Minister Rabuka of Fiji. We had a good conversation on various subjects. The relations between India and Fiji have stood the test of time. We look forward to working together to strengthen these further in the years to come.”
