Kiev – Reuters:
Ukraine said its forces were still advancing on both sides of the eastern city of Bakhmut, although the “volume” of its movements had decreased, and that Russia was bringing in more forces.
On Saturday, Russia declared full control of Bakhmut, but Ukrainian officials have since said that Kiev’s forces still control a small part of the city.
Ukraine’s deputy defense minister, Hana Malyar, confirmed that her country had a small foothold within the city itself.
And she said in statements, through our movement on both sides – in the north and south – we succeed in destroying the enemy by moving along the two sides and controlling certain heights there. Our armed forces made it very difficult for the enemy to stay in the city itself. “We’re still making progress, but the volume is declining somewhat,” she added. If we talk about the north, then there is much less activity there. If we talk about the south, we are advancing and the defense of Bakhmut as a city has fully achieved its military objective».
Malyar later wrote in a post on Telegram that Ukrainian forces still control “some private facilities and the private sector in the area” of Lytak.
And she emphasized Kiev’s goals regarding the defense of Bakhmut, saying, “The enemy’s offensive capabilities have been greatly reduced, heavy losses have been incurred, and we have gained time for some actions that will be discussed later.”
