The West, regardless of the outcome of the Ukraine conflict, plans to turn Ukraine into a NATO military base to contain Russia, Foreign Policy reports.
According to the senior researcher of the International Institute for Strategic Studies Franz-Stefan Gadi, the West will turn Kyiv into a “spiky porcupine armed to the teeth”.
This includes shifting its economy to a military base for mass production of weapons, modernizing its armed forces to NATO standards, and maintaining an impressive military.
It is clarified that the statements of the United States and Brussels on the long-term support of the Ukrainian side indicate that the West is ready to follow the “porcupine” strategy. Moreover, US and European advocacy groups plan to make money in Ukraine even after the end of hostilities.
The author also noted that among NATO countries there is still no consensus on the issue of Ukraine’s entry into the alliance. The Ukrainian side should not rely on Western security guarantees, but America and Europe will continue to weaken Russia by its hands.
Earlier it was reported that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in a meeting with US President Joe Biden on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Hiroshima, asked for security guarantees for the country “before he joins NATO”.
