Blind Syrian devotes his efforts to helping blind children

He felt that he had not lived through his childhood due to blindness, and when he grew up he decided to study English literature and become a teacher to help children with vision problems acquire skills. skills to practice their daily life.

He says: “When I first lost my sight, it was very difficult for me, because I went from a stage where I had all the means of entertainment, and I am a sighted child who can find anything for fun like video games and play with friends in the heat, so I became a second life”.

He added that the possibilities are very modest for the blind when it comes to entertainment. I entered into a very closed life.”

Three years ago, Kanakriya founded a team called “I read with my eyes”, specializing in teaching children to write and read using the Braille method at (Al-Amal School) to caring for blind children.

And he talked about dedicating his efforts to children, saying, “I focus on children because I’ve been through the situation they’re in because of the lack of entertainment. We’re dealing with kids whose Braille method is a dream for them, while it is their right.”

The team also organizes recreational activities like teaching children to play chess, solve the Rubik’s Cube and more.

The 41-year-old English teacher explained, “All these services are provided to them free of charge. Unfortunately, these means of entertainment do not exist for us, and if they exist, they are expensive. It was my dream, and I thank God I got something out of it and I still do.”


In addition to educational sessions, Kanakrieh and her team record books and academic lectures to post online for those who cannot use Braille.
