A relatively calm atmosphere prevailed after the entry into force of the cease-fire agreement for a week in Sudan, which raised hopes that the sound of weapons would be temporarily suppressed, even as witnesses spoke of hearing some gunfire in the capital, Khartoum.

Meanwhile, residents said that artillery fire could be heard in areas of the Sudanese capital, armored vehicles patrolled and warplanes flew over Khartoum, threatening a week-long ceasefire agreement that represented the greatest hope so far that the two sides of the conflict would stop fighting. . After five weeks of fierce battles between the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, the two sides agreed on Saturday to a seven-day truce.
