Meanwhile, residents said that artillery fire could be heard in areas of the Sudanese capital, armored vehicles patrolled and warplanes flew over Khartoum, threatening a week-long ceasefire agreement that represented the greatest hope so far that the two sides of the conflict would stop fighting. . After five weeks of fierce battles between the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, the two sides agreed on Saturday to a seven-day truce.
