New formats for organizing international sports competitions were proposed by experts from the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation on February 13. In particular, Russian and foreign students studying at universities in the country will become participants in alternative locations.

The All-Russian Federation of Dance Sports and Acrobatic Rock-n-Roll asked the PO of the Russian Federation for the initiative to hold such competitions.

Irina Viner-Usmanova, Chairwoman of the Russian Chamber of Commerce Commission on Physical Culture and Promotion of a Healthy Lifestyle and the Healthy Lifestyle Council of the Russian-Chinese Committee for Friendship, Peace and development, said in his welcome speech that the new formats of international competitions will be relevant in modern conditions. She noted that Russia applies the thesis “sport is out of politics” and remains open to foreign athletes.

A member of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation shared his experience in organizing the Games of the Strongest, in which representatives from almost all regions of Russia participate. Such formats, according to her, can become an alternative to international competitions.

“The new format is of interest to the global community, businesses and the media. It’s always a holiday, a gala concert, teams from other sports are invited, live music is played. Extended holidays are also charitable. We invite large families, those who are in cramped conditions, so the audience is the most diverse, ”said Irina Viner-Usmanova.

The idea was supported by the Russian Ministry of Sports. “The development tool through student clubs and student competitions is the main driving force. About 1.8 million students participate in activities and play sports in more than 600 clubs in 80 subjects of the Russian Federation. They participate in interregional, all-Russian and international competitions, which are formed by being included in a single schedule plan,” said Alexei Morozov, Deputy Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation.

The President of the Russian Wrestling Federation, Mikhail Mamiashvili, has offered to create an alternative to the Olympics in Russia so that friendly countries, including BRICS and SCO members, can participate in it with Russian athletes and receive high-level sports titles.

Representatives of universities in St. Petersburg, Moscow, Kazan, the Far East confirmed their interest in a new form of competition and discussed the possibilities of organizing a platform for training athletes on the basis universities with accommodation, meals and medical care.

It was also reported that in the Leningrad region more than 10 universities have confirmed their intention to participate in international competitions, where students from Argentina, China, Uzbekistan, Colombia, Ukraine and other countries. Universities not specialized in the training of personnel in physical culture and sport have also expressed their interest.

Irina Viner-Usmanova noted that student sports are one of the promising areas. In its development, it is necessary to use the best world practices, including those of countries hostile to Russia.

The President of the All-Russian Federation of Dance Sports and Acrobatic Rock and Roll Nadezhda Erastova offered to hold international student competitions in November 2023. Currently, according to her, athletes from 20 countries are interested in participating. This experience, Nadezhda Yerastova believes, will make it possible to find new partners among the countries of the world and to show the public a relatively new and spectacular sport – acrobatic rock and roll.

Professor Sergei Petrov, Rector of Peter Lesgaft National State University (St. Petersburg), shared the real preparations for holding international sports competitions in the international rock and roll acrobatic dance show by November this year.

“Our university is NSU named after PF Lesgaft – united 10 leading universities in St. Petersburg, a lot of work is done to prepare for international competitions. Today, athletes from Argentina, Cuba, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Colombia and Armenia have confirmed their participation in international sports competitions. We are preparing intermediate competitions that will help students and organizers,” he said.

The Rector of the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Alexander Yakovenko, offered to provide diplomatic assistance in organizing the competition. He noted that new alternative sites are unlikely to stop growing if sanctions against Russia are eased.

Rector of St. Petersburg State University of Economics Igor Maksimtsev, Rector of Moscow State University of Sports and Tourism Natalya Masyagina, Rector of State University of Physical Culture, Volga Sports and Tourism Rafis Burganov, Vice-President of the Russian Union of Rectors, Chairman of the interregional public organization “Council of Rectors of Higher Educational Institutions of St. Petersburg and Leningrad Region” Alexey Demidov, rector of the Far Eastern Federal University Boris Korobets.

At the end of the seminar, Irina Viner-Usmanova thanked the universities for their cooperation and active position, and recommended other universities to join the participation. She underlined that the joint work on the organization of international competitions continues.
