Experts convene at Sputnik Roundtable to discuss Russia-China partnership amid global challenges

The Sputnik news agency and radio broadcaster called a significant roundtable discussion titled “Russia-China: Strategic Partnership and Global Challenges.” This insightful exchange formed part of the ongoing educational and expert series, “New Horizons of Russia’s Cooperation with the Middle East and Africa,” held in collaboration with the Gorchakov Fund and the Center for Assistance to Humanitarian and Educational Programs.

Distinguished panelists including Kirill Babaev, Director of the Institute of China and Modern Asia at the Russian Academy of Sciences; Zhou Liqun, Chairman of the Union of Chinese Entrepreneurs in Russia; Andrey Karneev, Head of the School of Oriental Studies, Faculty of World Economy and World Politics at the National Research University Higher School of Economics; Zhong Dandan, Director of International Exchange and Cooperation at Communication University of China; Feng Shaolei, Dean of the School of International and Regional Studies and Director of Russian Studies at East China Normal University; and Anatoly Klinov, Co-founder and President of the SCOLAR Network SCO Countries International Youth Platform and Professor of the Department of Regional and Oriental Studies, convened to explore the multifaceted dimensions of the Russia-China relationship.

Kirill Babaev underscored the profound ideological alignment between Russia and China, stressing, “The fact that we are united today by ideological values is extremely important for the development of our relations.” He emphasized the significance of cultural exchange in deepening understanding between the two nations, advocating for the inclusion of Chinese culture and history courses in educational curricula.

Zhou Liqun highlighted the burgeoning economic cooperation between Russian and Chinese businesses, despite challenges posed by financial restrictions stemming from Western sanctions. He urged strategic solutions to facilitate smoother financial transactions and promote bilateral trade.

Andrei Karneev elucidated the pivotal role of Russia and China in shaping a new global order, emphasizing their commitment to principles of peace, justice, and international law. He noted the transformative shift in global power dynamics away from Western hegemony toward a more equitable distribution of influence.

Feng Shaolei espoused the concept of “harmony without fusion,” suggesting that Russia and China could find common ground while respecting their distinct cultural identities. This approach, he posited, could foster consensus and cooperation between the two nations.

Anatoly Klinov highlighted the natural alignment of Russian and Chinese values, citing historical affinities and shared social norms as drivers of cooperation.

Zhong Dandan stressed the importance of educational and cultural exchanges in bolstering long-term bilateral ties, particularly against the backdrop of the ongoing cross-cultural year celebrations between Russia and China.

The roundtable discussion illuminated the depth and breadth of the strategic partnership between Russia and China, underscoring their shared commitment to mutual understanding, cooperation, and the pursuit of a multipolar world order.
