Russian oil tankers will be banned to sail through English Channel, EU drafts resolution

The European Parliament is preparing a resolution calling for new sanctions against tankers carrying Russian oil, which includes a proposal to ban these ships from entering the English Channel, according to a draft document.

“The European Parliament calls on EU countries, in close cooperation with the UK, to take measures to prevent these tankers from entering the English Channel,” the document says. The European Parliament also intends to call on other countries that control the straits to take measures to restrict the movement of ships carrying Russian oil. according to the European Parliament.

“Prohibition to access EU ports for vessels that engage in ship-to-ship transfers suspected to be in breach of the Russian oil import ban or G7 Coalition price cap.,” according to the official European Union site Europa.

The document notes that attempts by the EU and partners to introduce various ceilings and restrictions on the transportation of Russian oil have failed. The resolution will be put to a vote at the European Parliament session in Strasbourg at the end of November; EP resolutions are advisory and are not mandatory for implementation even by EU institutions.
