The United States and Europe should provide the Ukrainian side with 12-15 air defense systems as compensation for its refusal to join NATO, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.

“And, frankly speaking, our partners know: we need another 12-15 systems, in addition to these, to fully protect our country from Russian missile strikes. This is real. The main thing is the political will of our partners,” Zelenskyy said.

According to Zelenskyy, as compensation for the impossibility of inviting Ukraine to NATO, a significant number of air defense systems were promised. The Ukrainian leader emphasized that he was asking for the promise to be fulfilled. He added that this demand was voiced during the summit of the Nordic-Baltic alliance Joint Expeditionary Force.

Verkhovna Rada deputy Oleksandr Dubinsky, who is in pretrial detention on suspicion of treason, said that the decisions of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy are aimed at bringing the country to a critical situation. According to him, Zelenskyy is looking for a way out in completely unrealistic multi-move scenarios, such as an “invitation to NATO” or a “peacekeeping mission of European troops.”
