The Oklahoma City Thunder are turning the Western Conference semifinals into a nightmare for the Los Angeles Lakers.
Behind another ruthless second-half explosion, the defending NBA champions overwhelmed the Lakers 131-108 in Game 3 on Saturday night at Crypto.com Arena, moving within one victory of a sweep and extending their perfect postseason record to 7-0.
What was supposed to become a competitive series after shifting to Los Angeles has instead exposed a massive gulf between the two teams. The Lakers once again fought hard for a half before Oklahoma City completely broke them after the break.
Ajay Mitchell delivered the defining performance of his young playoff career with 24 points and 10 assists, continuing his remarkable postseason emergence while stepping up in the absence of injured forward Jalen Williams. MVP candidate Shai Gilgeous Alexander humiliates Lakers again with another composed performance, adding 23 points and nine assists, while Chet Holmgren dominated both ends with 18 points and nine rebounds.
The Thunder’s offensive depth and relentless pace eventually overwhelmed Los Angeles for the third straight game.

The Thunder exploded out of the locker room with another devastating third quarter surge, outscoring the Lakers 33-20 before burying them completely in the fourth quarter. By the final minutes, the game had turned into another humiliating blowout for Los Angeles.
LeBron James finished with 19 points, eight assists and six rebounds, but the four time NBA champion struggled to control the tempo once Oklahoma City accelerated the game. Rui Hachimura led the Lakers with 21 points, while Austin Reaves added 17 points and nine assists but continued to battle inconsistency and turnovers throughout the night.
The absence of Luka Doncic continues to haunt the Lakers offense.
Without their injured superstar creator, Los Angeles has repeatedly failed to generate efficient half court offense against Oklahoma City’s aggressive defensive pressure. The Thunder forced 17 Lakers turnovers in Game 3 and repeatedly converted mistakes into transition baskets that quickly shifted momentum.
Oklahoma City also dominated from beyond the arc, knocking down 17 three pointers while shooting better than 56 percent from the field. Every time the Lakers threatened to close the gap, the Thunder answered with another scoring avalanche.

Mitchell completely took over stretches of the second half, while Oklahoma City’s supporting cast consistently punished every defensive breakdown from Los Angeles. The Thunder bench once again outplayed the Lakers reserves, continuing Oklahoma City’s ruthless domination throughout the series.
Coach Mark Daigneault’s system has created constant spacing, relentless ball movement and defensive chaos that the Lakers simply have not been able to solve through three games.
Meanwhile, frustration is rapidly building for Los Angeles.
Coach JJ Redick experimented with multiple lineup changes and defensive combinations throughout the night, but nothing consistently slowed Oklahoma City’s guards from attacking the paint and creating open looks. The Lakers have now lost all three games in the series by double digits, and each defeat has looked worse than the last.
The Thunder already delivered Thunder’s Game 1 blowout, but Game 3 may have been even more damaging psychologically for Los Angeles.
The numbers now paint an almost hopeless picture for the Lakers.
No NBA team has ever recovered from a 3-0 deficit to win a playoff series, placing this collapse firmly into NBA playoff history. The Lakers now face elimination heading into Game 4.
For Oklahoma City, this postseason is beginning to feel much bigger than a title defense.
The Thunder entered the playoffs as defending champions and have only looked stronger in 2026. Their combination of elite defense, depth, athleticism and unselfish offense is starting to resemble the league’s next dominant young playoff core.
Even more alarming for the Lakers is that Oklahoma City has not needed a vintage scoring explosion from Gilgeous Alexander to completely dominate the series. The Thunder have won with defense, bench production, transition offense and overwhelming second half execution.
The Lakers, meanwhile, look exhausted, overmatched and dangerously close to a humiliating sweep on their home floor.
Game 4 now becomes a desperation test for LeBron James and Los Angeles.
For Oklahoma City, it is an opportunity to deliver another statement to the rest of the NBA that the road to the championship still runs through the Thunder.
