Horoscope Today, 17 August 2026 opens on a Monday; the sky spends most of its evening refusing to commit. At 17:01 IST, the Moon in Libra completes a sextile to the Sun in Leo, and then it does nothing at all. No conjunction, no square, no trine, no opposition to any planet for the next ten hours and fifteen minutes, until it crosses into Scorpio at 03:16 IST on Tuesday morning. Astrologers call that stretch a void of course Moon. Anyone who has signed a contract at nine in the evening and regretted it by Thursday has lived through one without knowing the name.
The figure matters more than the label. Most columns published for today will tell you the Moon is in Libra, which is true and roughly as useful as being told it is August. Very few will name the hour the Moon stops speaking, and almost none will say it stays silent for 10 hours and 15 minutes. That number was computed from the Swiss Ephemeris rather than lifted from a syndication feed, and it is the most actionable fact in the sky today.
The rest of the chart is unusually static. Saturn, Neptune and Pluto are all retrograde. Jupiter and Mercury sit within three degrees of one another in Leo, still cooling from a conjunction exact on Saturday. Venus has settled into Libra, her own sign. And the lunar node, the point that decides where eclipses fall, has effectively stopped moving. It is a day of enormous atmosphere and very little forward motion, which is the sort of day people mistake for a stalled life.
The Sky Over India on 17 August 2026
At noon IST, the Sun stands at 24 degrees 23 minutes of Leo and the Moon at 21 degrees 55 minutes of Libra, 57.54 degrees ahead of the Sun and 23.16 per cent lit, still climbing through the waxing crescent phase towards a First Quarter that arrives at 08:16 IST on 20 August. In Ludhiana the Moon rises at 10:26 IST and sets at 21:40 IST, in New Delhi 10:17 and 21:38, in Mumbai 10:25 and 22:08, in Kolkata 09:24 and 21:00, in Chennai 09:49 and 21:45. The void window therefore begins in daylight and runs through the whole evening, moonset included.
Mercury is the busiest body in the chart, at 13 degrees 37 minutes of Leo, moving almost two degrees a day, its elongation from the Sun closed to 10.77 degrees from a maximum of 19.39 degrees on 2 August. The planet of contracts and small print is walking into the Sun’s glare and will be swallowed within a fortnight. Mercury’s approach to Jupiter last Friday produced the expansive, slightly overconfident mood of the weekend. The conjunction peaked at 16:53 IST on 15 August at 10 degrees 09 minutes of Leo. What follows a Mercury and Jupiter meeting is usually the invoice.
Venus at 10 degrees 14 minutes of Libra is the one comfortable placement in the chart, and the reason the daytime hours read better than the night. Sunday’s conjunction of Moon and Venus has separated, but the Moon is still travelling through territory Venus rules, and civility comes cheaply until the sextile to the Sun closes the door at 17:01.
Mars is at 3 degrees 53 minutes of Cancer and squaring Neptune in Aries, the aspect responsible for the peculiar flavour of this week: effort that does not land, ambition without a target. Saturn is retrograde at 14 degrees 21 minutes of Aries, Neptune retrograde at 3 degrees 59 minutes of the same sign, Pluto retrograde at 3 degrees 48 minutes of Aquarius. Uranus alone stays direct at 5 degrees 26 minutes of Gemini until it stations retrograde at 23:57 IST on 10 September.
What a Void of Course Moon Actually Means
The Moon makes an aspect to something every few hours. When it has finished its last aspect in a sign and has not yet entered the next, it is void of course, and the traditional rule is blunt: nothing will come of it. That is not a prediction of disaster but of anticlimax. Purchases get returned. Offers get withdrawn. The brilliant idea at 9 pm looks ordinary at 9 am.
Readers will recognise the pattern from the 43 hour void period that shadowed Independence Day, an unusually long stretch that ended when the Moon finally entered Libra. Today’s window is a quarter of that length but far more awkwardly placed, covering the exact hours in which Indian households decide things: after office, over dinner, on a shopping app.
The instruction is narrow. Anything you want permanent should be finalised before 17:01 IST. Anything reversible is better attempted after it. The window suits rest, editing, finishing work already begun, and conversations with no agenda. It is poor for launches, purchases, proposals and ultimatums.
The Node That Will Not Move
The strangest feature of today’s chart is one no other horoscope will mention. The True Node sits at 29 degrees 49 minutes of Aquarius, 10.68 arcminutes from the boundary of Pisces. Across the whole of August it oscillates inside a band roughly three arcminutes wide and never crosses, its speed wobbling either side of zero.
The nodes are the hinges on which eclipses swing, and this is the axis that produced the total solar eclipse at 20 degrees Leo five days ago. A stalled node is a held breath. The season has delivered its first blow and not yet its second, and the mechanism governing both is standing still. If this fortnight feels like waiting for something you cannot name, the arithmetic agrees.
Aries (21 March to 19 April)

The Libra Moon falls in your seventh house of partnership, and today other people hold the pen.
Money and work: A negotiation moves closer to agreement during the morning, but the paperwork should be signed before the evening. Mercury, still fast in Leo, favours quick verbal deals over slow written ones.
Love and relationships: Venus in Libra sweetens the partnership sector all week. Someone is more willing to meet you halfway than you expect, provided you are not the one who raises the temperature first.
Health and energy: Mars squaring Neptune from your fourth house drains energy at home rather than at work. Sleep is the cheapest intervention available.
Timing to watch: The window between moonrise at 10:26 and the void at 17:01 is the productive part of the day. After that, listen rather than argue.
Lucky colour: Scarlet. Lucky number: 9.
Taurus (20 April to 20 May)

The Moon spends the day in your sixth house of work and routine, which is precisely where you like it.
Money and work: Administrative tasks that have been sitting for a week clear quickly. This is a strong day for tidying accounts and a weak one for opening new ones.
Love and relationships: Affection arrives through usefulness today rather than declaration. The person who fixes something for you is telling you something.
Health and energy: Your ruler Venus is dignified in Libra and in your sixth house, favouring anything that improves daily habits by small degrees. Grand overhauls will not survive the week.
Timing to watch: Handle anything financial before 17:01 IST. The evening is for domestic repair, not commitment.
Lucky colour: Moss Green. Lucky number: 6.
Gemini (21 May to 20 June)

The Libra Moon lands in your fifth house of creativity and risk, and Uranus still sits in your first.
Money and work: Creative work sells better than analytical work today. Present the idea, not the spreadsheet, and present it before the light goes.
Love and relationships: Romance is favoured in the afternoon and unreliable in the evening. What is said after 17:01 is felt sincerely and remembered vaguely.
Health and energy: Uranus at 5 degrees of Gemini keeps the nervous system running hot. Irregular sleep is your chief risk this month, not diet.
Timing to watch: Mercury rules your chart and is racing towards the Sun. Say the important thing this week, not next.
Lucky colour: Lemon Yellow. Lucky number: 5.
Cancer (21 June to 22 July)

The Moon rules your sign and today occupies your fourth house of home, while Mars sits in your first.
Money and work: Property, rent and family finance dominate. A conversation with a relative about money is more productive in daylight than after dinner.
Love and relationships: Mars squaring Neptune makes you push where you should ask. The person opposite you is not withholding; they are simply slower.
Health and energy: Mars in your own sign raises stamina and shortens patience in equal measure. Physical exertion is a better outlet than confrontation.
Timing to watch: The void of course window suits you better than most signs, because it favours retreat. Use the evening at home.
Lucky colour: Pearl White. Lucky number: 2.
Leo (23 July to 22 August)

The Sun, Mercury and Jupiter are all in your sign, and the Moon lights your third house of conversation.
Money and work: This is the strongest fortnight of your year for visibility, and the weakest for detail. Jupiter magnifies whatever Mercury has already got slightly wrong.
Love and relationships: Charm is abundant, and specificity is not. Say what you actually mean before 17:01, because after that the sky rewards charm over clarity.
Health and energy: Energy is high, and appetite for rest is low. The eclipse of 12 August fell in your sign, and recovery from it is still in progress, whether or not you have noticed.
Timing to watch: Mercury leaves your sign for Virgo within a fortnight. Anything requiring a decision should not wait for September.
Lucky colour: Antique Gold. Lucky number: 1.
Virgo (23 August to 22 September)

The Libra Moon occupies your second house of money and self-worth, and your ruler is in its final Leo fortnight.
Money and work: Income matters clarify today; expenditure does not. Do the sums in the morning and refuse to shop in the evening.
Love and relationships: You are more sensitive to being undervalued than usual. Say so plainly rather than testing whether the other person notices.
Health and energy: Mercury’s speed of nearly two degrees a day tends to show up in your sign as mental overrun. Slow the intake before you slow anything else.
Timing to watch: Your birthday season begins in six days, and the Sun enters Virgo with Mercury close behind. Plan now, launch then.
Lucky colour: Slate Grey. Lucky number: 10.
Libra (23 September to 22 October)

The Moon is in your own sign in the first house, joined by a dignified Venus at 10 degrees.
Money and work: You have unusual persuasive power today, and it expires at 17:01 IST. Every meeting you can move earlier, move earlier.
Love and relationships: Venus in her own sign is the most favourable romantic signature available in this chart. If there is something to ask, the afternoon is the hour to ask it.
Health and energy: The Moon in the first house heightens both mood and appearance. You will feel every atmosphere in the room, including ones that have nothing to do with you.
Timing to watch: The Moon leaves your sign at 03:16 IST on Tuesday. Whatever you want to begin under this Moon must begin today.
Lucky colour: Rose Pink. Lucky number: 7.
Scorpio (23 October to 21 November)

The Moon spends the day in your twelfth house of retreat before entering your sign in the small hours.
Money and work: Work quietly and behind the scenes. Information reaches you today that is not yet meant for you, and the advantage lies in not revealing that you have it.
Love and relationships: Old feelings surface without invitation. Pluto retrograde in Aquarius is working on your fourth house, and the source is usually family rather than romance.
Health and energy: The twelfth house Moon is depleting. Expect to need more sleep than the day appears to justify, and take it.
Timing to watch: The Moon enters Scorpio at 03:16 IST on Tuesday. Tomorrow is your day. Today is the corridor outside it.
Lucky colour: Oxblood Maroon. Lucky number: 4.
Sagittarius (22 November to 21 December)

The Libra Moon fills your eleventh house of networks, alliances and the people who open doors.
Money and work: A contact, not a qualification, moves your position forward. Send the message during office hours rather than at midnight.
Love and relationships: Friendship and attraction blur pleasantly today. Neither needs a definition before Tuesday.
Health and energy: Jupiter in Leo runs strongly for you all season, which is generous with enthusiasm and careless with limits. Watch the appetite, not the mood.
Timing to watch: Group plans made after 17:01 IST will need to be remade. Confirm the details in daylight.
Lucky colour: Royal Purple. Lucky number: 12.
Capricorn (22 December to 19 January)

The Moon crosses your tenth house of career and public standing, the most visible sector of your chart.
Money and work: Someone senior forms an impression of you today. Saturn retrograde in Aries is testing your foundations, so present competence rather than ambition.
Love and relationships: Work is louder than home today, and the people at home have noticed. A short call is worth more than a long apology.
Health and energy: The tenth house Moon rarely lets you switch off. Fatigue accumulates quietly in Capricorn charts and announces itself late.
Timing to watch: Professional conversations belong to the morning. The void of course window is for reviewing, not for asking.
Lucky colour: Charcoal Black. Lucky number: 8.
Aquarius (20 January to 18 February)

The Moon occupies the ninth house of belief and long journeys, while the lunar node stalls at the end of your sign.
Money and work: Foreign clients, travel, higher study and publishing are all favoured. Pluto retrograde in your sign is slowly rewriting how you present yourself, and today offers a preview.
Love and relationships: Distance features somehow, whether geographic or philosophical. The gap is smaller than it looks from your side of it.
Health and energy: The stalled node at 29 degrees of your sign describes a pause you did not choose. Treat it as recovery rather than failure.
Timing to watch: Book, apply, and enquire before 17:01 IST. Anything submitted after that tends to require resubmission.
Lucky colour: Electric Blue. Lucky number: 11.
Pisces (19 February to 20 March)

The Moon moves through your eighth house of shared money and hidden matters, and the next eclipse falls in your sign.
Money and work: Joint finances, loans, insurance and tax come into focus. Read the figures in the morning, because Neptune retrograde in Aries is not helping your judgement after dark.
Love and relationships: Intensity is available, and clarity is not. Do not mistake the depth of a feeling for evidence about the person who caused it.
Health and energy: The eighth house Moon can amplify anxiety about matters that are entirely under control. Verify before you worry.
Timing to watch: The partial lunar eclipse of 28 August falls at 4 degrees 51 minutes of Pisces. Eleven days out, the ground is already shifting.
Lucky colour: Sea Green. Lucky number: 3.
The Eclipse Eleven Days Out, and Why India Will Not See It
Next on the calendar is the partial lunar eclipse of Friday, 28 August 2026, and a great deal of nonsense is already circulating about it. The computed timings in IST are: penumbral phase begins 06:54, partial phase 08:04, greatest eclipse 09:43, partial phase ends 11:22, penumbral phase 12:32. Umbral magnitude is 0.9319, so about 96 per cent of the lunar disc enters Earth’s dark shadow. It is among the deepest partial eclipses possible without being total, and NASA’s own explainer on eclipses and the Moon sets out why the geometry stops short.
None of it is visible from India. The lunar altitude at greatest eclipse, computed for this article, is minus 48.10 degrees at New Delhi, minus 46.21 at Ludhiana, minus 46.36 at Mumbai, minus 59.63 at Kolkata and minus 53.92 at Chennai. The Moon is below the horizon in every Indian city at every single contact. The global visibility map for that morning puts the event over the Americas, Europe, and Africa.
The consequence follows from the classical rule. Sutak is observed where an eclipse is visible. This one is not visible anywhere in India, so no Sutak applies, no temple closures are warranted, and no fasting window exists. That matters this year, because 28 August is also Raksha Bandhan, and several astrology sites are publishing Sutak timings for a country in which the Moon will be below the horizon all morning. Those timings are wrong, and the altitude figures above are the reason.
How to Read Today’s Horoscope
The twelve readings above are cast on whole sign houses from each Sun sign, which is why the Libra Moon lands in a different sector for every reader. If you know your rising sign, read that one instead, and if you know neither, the twelve houses of a birth chart explain what each sector governs and why the same transit produces such different results in different lives.
What the chart amounts to on 17 August 2026 is a day with a hard edge in the middle. Until 17:01 IST, the sky is cooperative, Venus is dignified, Mercury is quick, and the Moon is making contact. After 17:01, the Moon goes silent for ten hours and fifteen minutes, and the sky stops underwriting new commitments. The old advice about void Moons is that nothing will come of it. On a Monday evening in an eclipse season, with the node frozen and three outer planets retrograde, that is not a warning. It is permission to stop pushing.
