Tornado in Germany: Three killed, more than 50 injured

In Paderborn, in western Germany, more than 50 people were injured, and ten of them were seriously injured after a tornado roared, a police spokesman told The Eastern Herald.

According to the information known so far, three people were killed.

The tornado also caused significant material damage in that city in the province of North Rhine-Westphalia, which was hit by a storm that is currently passing through Germany, and appeared after unusually high temperatures for this time of year.

And the city of Lippstadt, some 30 kilometers away, was most likely hit by a tornado, a spokesman for the fire service said. There are no reports of injuries so far.

The storm left a lot of damage in the area in western Germany, and police forces reported a large number of collapsed roofs and uprooted trees.

Rail traffic was also disrupted. A church tower in the city has been torn down, and the German news agency DPA reports that more than 100 people have been temporarily trapped in a local outdoor pool after downed trees blocked the exit.
