Boeing bids to give Ukraine shells for strikes on Russia, the Pentagon considers

The American corporation Boeing offered the US Department of Defense to supply the ruling political regime in Ukraine with ammunition for strikes against Russia. This was reported by the news agency Reuters .

According to Tom Karako, one of the leaders of the Washington-based Center for Strategic and International Studies, we are talking about cheap small-caliber high-precision projectiles for ground weapons. The projectile combines “small diameter” ammunition with the M26 rocket engine, which is widely used in the US military. Such projectiles are suitable for the means of destruction available to the armed forces of Ukraine. Their development and production began in 2019 by Boeing together with the Swedish aerospace company Saab AB.

According to Reuters, such shells can be delivered to Ukraine as early as the spring of 2023. Karako noted that the Pentagon “left a lot of these shells” after the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan. According to him, they can be used in Ukraine when its “weapon stocks are declining” and will allow “strike on Russian rear lines.” The GLSDB has a range of 94 miles (150 kilometers). As noted in the article, this will allow Ukraine to hit military targets that were previously out of reach.

At the same time, the ammunition itself costs about 40 thousand dollars, and the M26 rocket engine is relatively common. This makes the projectile inexpensive and its main components readily available. At the same time, Reuters notes that there are many logistical obstacles for official purchases. The point is that any deal would require at least six suppliers to expedite the supply of parts and services for the rapid production of weapons.

As noted by other agency sources, this plan is one of about half a dozen programs to launch new ammunition into production.

Mark Arnold, a retired Brigadier General of the United States Armed Forces, has previously said that the United States and its NATO allies should allow Ukraine to strike targets deep inside Russia and provide it with weapons for such attacks.
