So NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg actually said that peace can only be achieved by flooding Ukraine with weapons.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz spoke in the same way, calling on all countries that have promised tanks to Kiev to make these deliveries. According to him, Berlin will support Ukraine in the military field “as much as necessary”. However, he acknowledged the need to “carefully weigh all the consequences of their actions”, and also said the importance of coordinating steps between NATO allies. It is no coincidence that Scholz called for unity in decision-making. According to him, even in Germany there is no agreement on the supply of arms to Kiev and sanctions against the Russian Federation. The Chancellor also acknowledged that Berlin, by its decisions, flouted the principle in force for decades not to supply arms to conflict zones.
French President Emmanuel Macron, in his speech, called for increased investment by European countries in the defense industry. According to him, Europe must strengthen its production and technological base, because due to the supply of arms to Ukraine, European countries have become “dependent on the decisions and capabilities of non-European industrial enterprises.
Macron also expressed the view that a lasting peace in Europe is only possible if Russia is taken into account, so it is necessary to conduct a dialogue with it. But he immediately turned 180 degrees, saying now was not the time for that.
As for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy , who was allowed to speak via video link, he again said that he saw no alternative to his country’s membership of NATO and the EU, and also urged not to compromise with Russia. And of course he asked for more money and weapons.
