US President Joe Biden paid an unannounced visit to Kiev. On Monday, February 20, Biden met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy . The meeting took place days before the anniversary of the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022.
The President of the United States announced additional aid to Ukraine in the amount of $500 million. He also assured Ukrainians of American and allied support: “A year later, Kiev is standing,” Biden said. – Ukraine is standing. Democracy stands. Americans support you and the whole world supports you.”
Zelenskyyy confirmed the visit of the American colleague on his Telegram channel. “Joseph Biden, welcome to Kiev! Your arrival is an extremely important sign of support for all Ukrainians,” Zelenskyyy wrote.
Joe Biden gave a speech and met with Vladimir Zelenskyyy at the Mariinsky Palace, Asossiated Press reported. The BBC was the first to announce the visit.
Biden traveled to Kiev on the ninth anniversary of the execution of Maidan activists during the Dignity Revolution. Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred Day is celebrated in Ukraine on February 20, in memory of more than a hundred Maidan activists who died in 2014.
