Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

An elite skyscraper in Turkey turned out to be a ‘death trap’ for residents during an earthquake

| Vladimir TulinThe Rönesans Rezidans luxury home in Turkey’s Hatay province collapsed in a powerful earthquake, becoming a “death trap” for residents. It should be noted that the 12-story building collapsed sideways. Built in 2011, the house had three entrances and the complex housed a gym, shops and a swimming pool.”There was a huge pile of rubble with a giant ‘skeleton’ of the building on top. That’s why the rescue was so difficult,” said one of the eyewitnesses. The skyscraper collapsed within the 40th second of the quake, which lasted nearly a minute. Engineer Oguz Cem Celik told the Financial Times that even though the building was badly damaged, people should have been able to leave it. So, the collapse of an elite house speaks of serious design and construction errors.
