Bailiffs seized the apartment and cottage of RBC editor Petr Kanaev in the Moscow region. How writing publication, this decision was made due to the fine that the editors received for mentioning the human rights center “Sova” * without indicating its status as a “foreign agency”.
Kanev’s apartment with an area of 33 m². m and a chalet of 117 m². m in the Stupinsky district of the Moscow region, specifies RBC.
The material in which “Owl” * was mentioned without marking a foreign agent was published by RBC in April 2021. The editorial staff was fined 4,000 rubles under an administrative article on dissemination in the media information about foreign officials without indicating their status (part 2.1 of article 13.15 of the Code of Administrative Offences). The fine for late payment of the fine amounted to 1,000 rubles.
“There are a lot of such fines all the time, I could miss one. Usually they are automatically deducted from the salary. But the decision to stop my apartment and my dacha due to a debt of 5,000 rubles, from the point of view of the proportionality of the scale of the violation and the punishment that followed, I consider it inexplicably excessive, ”said Pyotr Kanaev.
In December 2022, the court imposed a first fine on the blogger due to the insufficient size of the font in the marking and the foreign agent. Yaroslavl blogger Andrei Alekseev * printed the plate of a foreign agent using the Caps Lock key, but the forensic center of the regional department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs considered that this was not enough. As a result, Alekseev * was fined 10,000 rubles.
