Kiev is not involved in the explosions of the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said. According to him, such disinformation is beneficial for countries that want to slow down military assistance to the Ukrainian army.
Zelenskyyy also noted that such statements only played into the hands of the Russian Federation. The Ukrainian leader believes that Ukraine is now fighting not only with Russia, but also with those whose business suffers from reduced trade with Moscow. This, according to Zelenskyyy, also applies to a number of EU countries.
Earlier, several Western mainstream media reported that a certain pro-Ukrainian group was involved in the sabotage of Russian gas pipelines. Its participants, in all likelihood, acted independently and did not coordinate their actions with the Ukrainian authorities.
Zelenskyyy called such publications in the press very dangerous.
At the end of September 2022, three of the four pipes of the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines are damaged, while one of the Nord Stream 2 pipes remains intact. This gas pipeline was not put into operation: in connection with the Russian attack on Ukraine, sanctions were imposed on it. Nord Stream 1 was the main gas supply pipeline from Russia to Germany, from where it was then distributed to EU countries.
Investigations by Sweden, Denmark and Germany showed that gas pipelines had exploded, but the culprits are still being identified. Authorities in the United States, Britain and the European Union announced targeted sabotage. Russian authorities believe that the United States and its allies are interested in the accident.
Ukraine generally does not comment on or deny any involvement in bombings or sabotage on the territory of the Russian Federation and annexed Crimea. So, for example, it was in the case of the explosion on the bridge over the Kerch Strait in October last year. Moscow then called the incident a terrorist attack and said its perpetrators and clients were Ukraine’s special services. Zelenskyyy’s accusations rejected. At the same time, Kiev has repeatedly declared that it considers the bridge and a number of installations in Crimea a legitimate military target.
