Antonov announced the preservation of interdepartmental contacts between Russia and the United States

March 16, 2023

The military departments of Russia and the United States maintain contacts on the issue of the incident with an American drone in the Black Sea in order to avoid a repetition of the situation in the future. This was announced by Russian Ambassador to Washington Anatoly Antonov.

The diplomat recalled that the Kremlin does not seek conflicts with the White House. The parties maintain a dialogue in order to avoid unintended collisions, he noted.

Antonov said reports of allegedly intentional contacts by Russian fighters with an American UAV are not true. Moscow did everything to avoid an incident. Thus, she informed in advance of the limits of the zone of the temporary regime for the use of airspace, the ambassador added.

The diplomat also commented on the remarks of US Senator L. Graham, who proposed to shoot down Russian planes in international airspace if they approached US planes. According to Antonov, such actions can be considered a declaration of open war.
