Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

In Moscow, the police came to search the employees of “Memorial”

In Moscow, on the morning of March 21, the police came to search the employees of the Memorial company liquidated by the Russian authorities. This was reported on Twitter by the human rights organization.

Lawyer Arseniy Levinson told Novaya Gazeta Europe that searches had taken place, in particular, at the home of Oleg Orlov, chairman of the board of the human rights center, Nikita Petrov, vice-president of the center, the mother of Alexandra Polivanova, and Yan Rachinsky, chairman of the board of directors of the Memorial company.

OVD-Info also writes about searches at the homes of Galina Iordanskaya, Alena Kozlova and Irina Ostrovskaya. Subsequently, it also became known about the search of the home of historian Sergei Guryanov.

The Telegram channel of the Moscow Department of the Investigative Committee reported that searches were underway at more than 10 addresses.

As can be seen from the copy of the resolution, the searches are taking place in the Nazi rehabilitation case, which was opened on March 3, Levinson said.

The case was opened at the request of veterans of Russia. They would have found in the list of victims of Stalinist repressions, compiled by Memorial, about twenty names of people condemned for collaboration with Nazi Germany during the war.

On March 16, searches were carried out at the homes of former Memorial employees in Perm. Several people were seized with personal belongings and taken for questioning.

In December 2021, the Supreme Court of Russia decided to liquidate the International Memorial, and the Moscow City Court issued a similar decision regarding the Memorial human rights center.

Human rights activists have been charged with violating the Foreign Agents Act. Memorial, in turn, called the actions of the Russian authorities politically motivated and disproportionate. The Memorial team continues its human rights activities without a legal entity as a human rights project “Support for Political Prisoners. Memorial”
