Dissatisfied faction in Rajasthan Congress is calling a meeting of CLP. This demand was first raised by former Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot and now Cabinet Minister Pratap Singh Khachariawas has also supported it along with his loyal MLAs.
In an interview, Sachin Pilot raised the issue of CLP meeting not being held for months and said, ‘It is true that last year Sonia Gandhi had sent observers to Jaipur to hold the meeting. Unfortunately the meeting could not take place. I do not want to know the reason, but today even after so many months, the meeting of the MLAs has not been held. I think the Congress President and the leadership should pay attention to this.
The last CLP meeting was called on September 25 last year when Gehlot faction MLAs boycotted it and submitted their resignations to Speaker CP Joshi in support of Gehlot. Since then, no meeting of the Legislature has been called despite two sessions of the Legislative Assembly.
Khacharivas said, ‘When there is a ruckus of only one person or a group in the party, it is arbitrary. The balance between the party and the government makes it strong and the issue raised by him is not against the party line. The pilot has the right to speak.
Khachariwas is considered closest to Gehlot and was quite vocal against Pilot during the political crisis in July 2020. Khachriwas denied his differences with Pilot. Significantly, after Rajendra Singh Gudha, Khachriwas is the second minister who seems to be changing sides.
