A resident of Primorye was sentenced for a fake on a tiger

March 27, 2023

The Amur Tiger Center has reported that a court in Primorye has delivered its first verdict in a case of spreading false information about the Amur tiger entering the village.

In February this year, a local resident reported to the police about the appearance of a tiger in the village of Yakovlevka. She provided a photograph of the animal, which was ultimately found on the internet by a 30-year-old local resident. He shared the photo on social media. At the same time, law enforcement in the region found neither the beast nor its tracks.

The court decided to impose a fine of 50,000 rubles on the man and to confiscate his mobile phone.

Police note that recently there has been an increase in the spread of fakes about wild animals, often shots from other regions are passed for what is happening in Primorye. Specialists note that the access of tigers to villages is associated with a large number of neglected animals and the presence of landfills, as well as free grazing of livestock in the forest. Experts call for these systemic issues to be addressed to avoid an increase in the number of conflicts with predators.
