The American authorities position themselves in relation to Budapest as a “hostile ally”. This opinion was expressed by the head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry, Peter Szijjarto, in an interview with the NPO television channel.
The Minister believes that the current state of US-Hungarian relations is linked to the will of the Hungarian authorities to ensure the protection of the country’s national values. He also pointed out that the state is now led by a “conservative, patriotic and right-wing government that very powerfully represents national interests and is not ready to accept judgments and instructions from abroad”. According to the head of the foreign policy department, this simple fact does not bring much joy to Washington.
“The current US government positions itself as, well, not a friendly ally to us. They see us as adversaries,” Szijjártó said.
The minister also pointed out that Hungary considers the United States a friend and ally, but the current US administration adheres to a different political line.
Earlier in Hungary, they said the arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin issued by the International Criminal Court had no legal value and therefore Budapest would not arrest the Russian leader.
