On March 31, in Tver, Governor Igor Rudenya met with Mabel Chinomon, Speaker of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Zimbabwe, who arrived in our city with a delegation from her country. At the last meeting, issues of cooperation between the Upper Volga region and the African country were raised.
– We are pleased to welcome the delegation of the Republic of Zimbabwe to Tver. More than 40 years ago, an embassy of the Soviet Union was opened in Harare. Since then, relations between our countries have developed along the path of strengthening cooperation in the trade, economic, military-technical, scientific, educational and other spheres. We propose to consider promising areas of cooperation between the Tver region and the Republic, – said Igor Rudenya.
The African senator backed the region’s leader’s idea and said interaction between Russia and Zimbabwe resumed with renewed vigor in 2019, when the leaders of the two states met.
– Zimbabwe is famous for its agro-economy. Thanks to the knowledge of the experience of the Tver region, we are sure that we will find new approaches in the development and optimization of our economic processes. It is important for us to adopt the best practices of partners, – said Mabel Chinomona.
Today, Russia supplies a number of products to the African country. The list includes fertilizers, grain, machinery, optics, communication equipment and more. Zimbabwe has one of the longest railway networks on the continent. The governor of the Tver region believes that cooperation in the export of products of our railway transport technology has justified prospects. Other potential projects were also discussed. They are associated with the supply of agro-food products, special equipment and lighting equipment.
Goods produced on the land of Tver are already in demand in Africa. In 2023, products from the Likhoslavl Svetotekhnika factory will be used to decorate a bridge over the Senegal River. Governor Igor Rudenya and Mabel Chinomona also discussed the possibilities of cooperation in the field of education. Our region has a wealth of experience in training specialists with varied profiles who are sought-after professionals in both Africa and Asia.
