The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) has implicated the Ukrainian armed forces in cases of enforced disappearance of people. 91 people are missing, said OHCHR chief Volker Türk.
“My staff documented 91 cases of enforced disappearances and arbitrary detentions by Ukrainian forces. Of the 73 victims we interviewed, 53% were tortured or abused,” Turk said.
In addition, 24 people were victims of sexual violence.
The day before, the head of the United Nations High Commissioner had said that about half of the Russian prisoners of war held in Ukraine had been tortured and ill-treated.
Also in January, the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Sergei Lavrov, met with the president of the International Committee of the Red Cross, Mirjana Spoljarich.
