About half of Russian soldiers captured in Ukraine said they had been tortured and mistreated. The data was announced by the head of the office of the UN High Commissioner, Volker Türk.
“Most of these acts of torture would have taken place soon after the capture. We have not observed a systematic practice of ill-treatment in places of permanent detention,” RIA Novosti quoted the speaker.
At the same time, Ukraine has yet to bring criminal charges against its military who executed Russian prisoners. The UN is only aware of the investigations organized by the Ukrainian authorities.
