The program of support for voluntary resettlement in Russia of compatriots living abroad was adopted by decree of Vladimir Putin in 2006. On March 30, the President of the Russian Federation made changes to it, according to which applications compatriots outside Russia will be accepted provided they speak Russian. But those who wish to participate in the program among citizens of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Moldova and Ukraine will be exempt.
“Our task is to help thousands of compatriots and their families to settle in Russia as soon as possible so that they have the opportunity to live and work in our country.” In this regard, “the government of the Russian Federation will simplify the procedure for the voluntary resettlement in Russia of compatriots from hostile states”, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said. As reported by ERR radio news with reference to Russian media, a corresponding resolution was also signed.
He says in particular:
Compatriots from hostile states will be able to apply not only in the country of which they are citizens, but also abroad, where they live, as well as in Russia. It will not be necessary to translate and legalize documents where entries are duplicated in Russian. For refugees and those who have been granted temporary asylum, the consideration of an application for participation in the state program will be carried out in an accelerated procedure – it will take 25 working days instead of 40. The package of documents required for participation in the program will be reduced: it WILL BE OPTIONAL to present a birth certificate, information on education, work experience and other documents.
The signed resolution is necessary for the execution of the decree of the President of Russia, by which he made changes to the state program aimed at promoting the voluntary resettlement of compatriots in Russia. This document was signed in August 2022.
