More than 25% of Russians are ready to switch to digital rubles

April 13, 2023

The digital ruble could become the third form of Russian national currency. The Central Bank of the Russian Federation has recently started testing it.

According to a survey conducted by Otkritie Bank, 27% of respondents are ready to use the new form of currency.

More than half (55%) of Russians are aware of plans to put a digital ruble into circulation. Another 45% said they knew nothing about innovation. Residents of Moscow and the Moscow region, as well as St. Petersburg, the Leningrad region and the Far East know the most about this project.

Among those who are aware of the Central Bank’s plans, 49% are already ready to use the digital ruble. 19% of respondents will not try the new product – this answer was most often given by residents of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region. One in three respondents struggled to answer.

Among the benefits of digital currency, respondents cited security, speed and convenience, as well as a desire to try new things. 3% of respondents admitted that they had not found a reason to try this form of currency. The negative answer is more often given by those who are used to paying in cash or with a bank card. They motivated the rejection of the digital ruble by the lack of information about it and distrust of digital currencies.
