The Ministry of the Interior issued a statement in response to publications that appeared on the increase in the number of special regiments and Grom. The ministry said the number was affected by the participation of employees in the Russian Federation military operation in Ukraine.
“The question of recruiting and strengthening certain units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia is dictated by the operational situation associated with the conduct of a special military operation, in which employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation of Russia are directly involved,” the Interior Ministry’s press center said.
The day before, on April 12, State Duma deputy Alexander Khinshtein said that a structure was being created within the Russian Interior Ministry that would almost completely duplicate the functions of the National Guard. The parliamentarian called the agency’s actions “extremely dangerous”.
